Material grouping Material grouping
Materials are grouped together in ISO15608 to reduce the
number of procedures required. Steel Groups are:
Group 1 C-Mn Steels
Group 2 Fine Grain/TMCP Steels
Group 3 QT or PH (except stainless steels)
Group 4 Low Vanadium Cr-Mo Steels
Group 5 Vanadium Free Cr -Mo Steels
Group 6 High Vanadium Cr-Mo Steels
Group 7 Ferritic, Martensitic and PH Stainless
Group 8 Austenitic Stainless
Group 9 Ni Alloy Steel
Group 10 Duplex Stainless
Group 11 Steels as per Group 1 but with a higher carbon content

Background to BS EN ISO9606-1:2013
The new approach taken by this standard
is to adopt a similar methodology to ASME Section IX .We will
highlight these similarities as we come to them.
The 9606 series cover manual welding. Fully Automatic or
mechanised welding is covered by BS EN ISO 14732

Is BS EN ISO 9606-1:2013 a harmonized standard for PED?
It has a ZA Annex which states once published in the Official Journal of the European Union under that Directive it will have a presumption of conformity.
The CEN website appears to say this has happened but has not yet been published?
Annex I :3.1.2:To carry out these approvals the third party must perform examinations and tests as set out in the appropriate harmonised standards or equivalent examinations and tests or must have them performed.
